Rukkilill cowl knitting pattern (English)
This shawl is inspired by cornflowers and swallows, two national symbols of Estonia. This cowl has the style of a traditional Haapsalu lace shawl with a few twists - clean garter stitch edge and contrasting nuppud in mohair.
This cowl is knit flat from the garter tab cast on tip up, increasing with yarn overs to the width for the circumference. The cowl is then blocked flat before seaming the short sides together.
The 4ply fingering weight and lace weight are held together for the cowl to create a subtle marl effect in the lace sections. The Estonian nupp bobbles are worked solely in the lace weight on both RS and WS for a contrasting colour bobble.
