HALLISTE
Halliste is a shawl roosimine knitting pattern full of unique techniques and construction. It showcases the Roosimine Estonian inlay knitting technique for eye catching details. Unlike many shawls, Halliste is knit in the round from the tip up for ease of working Roosimine and then steeked. The steek makes a beautiful fringed edge for some added flair.
The motifs for this unique shawl knitting pattern came from flipping through the pages of my treasure trove of old Estonian books dating back to as far as the 1930s. This sparked the idea of translating the beautiful embroidery style from Halliste, Estonia, hence the name for the shawl, into a knitted piece. The geometric floral motif created using the Roosimine knitting technique has a little nod to the iconic and bold floral Unikko pattern from Marimekko. It makes for a beautiful blend of Estonian and Finnish design.
